Home / Guides / How friend groups meet other groups
Start seated, not scattered
The usual failure is one extrovert collecting phone numbers and a group chat that three people mute. The other crew never quite exists. Grouping starts from the other end: your friends are already at the table before you look outward.
Table is that seat. The people on it came with you. You can get up and look at other houses on Tonight without dissolving your own group. When you come back, the table is still yours.
Name a night both crews understand
“We should all hang out” is not a plan. A time, a neighborhood, and a mood are a plan. Drinks, dinner, dancing, karaoke, a walk, late food: pick one the whole table can see. The other house should be able to tell what they are agreeing to.
Write that in the group profile as well. Name the crew, show every face, and list a neighborhood plus three interests you actually share. A profile written by one person, using only that person’s photos, is a solo profile wearing a group name.
Meet only after both votes
Seeing another house is not a meetup. Your crew votes, their crew votes, and a mutual yes opens chat so you can confirm the plan. A veto on either side stops it. Nobody has to explain themselves in a private thread they did not ask for.
Then pick a public place and a length. Ninety minutes is enough. Everyone should know how they are getting home before you sit down. If you want the practical list of places, use the group date ideas guide rather than defaulting to the loudest bar.
Questions people ask
- Do we need an existing group chat with the other crew?
- No. Chat on Grouping opens after the mutual match, and it is for planning that meetup. You do not need a second app thread before both crews have agreed.
- What if only one of us wants to go?
- Then it is not a crew plan. A veto exists so one uneasy person can stop a match the rest of the table is unsure about.
