Why a crew votes before chat opens

Opening chat first feels efficient and works badly. One person starts a thread, the other three meet the plan in a message they did not agree to, and someone has to be rude to unwind it.

A swipe is not a commitment

The person who spots another house is nominating them, not booking the night. The rest of the crew still has to look. On Grouping a majority yes is required, and a single veto stops the match. The veto is there for the friend who cannot explain the bad feeling yet.

That is slower than a solo app. It is also the only way a group decision stays a group decision. If chat opened on the first swipe, the fastest thumb would speak for the table.

Mutual means both houses

Your yes is half of it. The other crew votes too. Chat unlocks after that mutual match, which is also when a house of two or more people is actually seated for the plan. Until then the thread does not exist, so there is nothing to ghost and nothing to overthink.

Use the thread for logistics once it exists. Confirm the time, the corner you are meeting on, and who is coming. Do not treat it as a second dating app inside the group date. The meeting is still the point.

What the vote does not do

A vote is not a background check. Reporting and blocking inside the app are still coming. The vote will not catch every uneasy feeling, and it will not replace leaving a plan that turns sour.

What it does do is keep the default at no. Silence is not a yes, one reluctant friend is not outvoted into a private chat, and the other house hears back only when your crew has actually agreed. If you want the safety comparison with a solo first date, that guide is the next read.

Questions people ask

Can one person force a match?
No. A majority has to agree, and one veto stops it. One enthusiastic friend cannot open chat for the crew.
What should we say in chat once it opens?
Time, place, and who is coming. The getting-to-know-you part happens at the meetup, where everyone can leave with their own friends.
